Last July Sunningmead Community Association celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the Opening of the Sunningmead Community Centre and the completion of a New Roof for the Community Centre.
A Celebration Community Event: was held on the afternoon of Saturday 11th July. It was opened by the Mayor of Tiverton, Councillor Paul Graham who cut a large Celebration Cake (pictured left) made and iced by the Community Payback Team (Community Service) who work at the Centre twice a week.
Community Event Entertainments included: Tiverton Town Band, Tiverton Majorettes, Dave Hendy a children's and family Entertainer & Magician, the Singing Aloud Youth Choir, Pianist Dan Kilshaw, Wilcombe Primary School Singers.
Activities for Under 5's were organised by Tiverton Children's Centre and Sunningmead Toddler Group: Ball Pool & Soft Play, Games & Crafts.
Displays by Groups who use the Community Centre included the Cowgirl Twisters Line Dancers, a Junior Karate Display led by Sensie Bruce Clothier, and Sunningmead Art Club who displayed their recent life-size collages in the hall.
Exhibitions were produced by the Community Association (History & Development of the Community Centre), the Prince's Trust Team (pictured right) who are based at the Centre and an Art Exhibition by Tidcombe Primary School pupils.
Food & Drink with hot Barbecue food, Light Refreshments and cakes, and the Sunningmead Bar was open all afternoon. Prince's Trust Information Point
A Grand Draw was held at 6pm at the close of the Celebration.
The completion of a New Roof for the Community Centre was marked by the handing over of a placque by Claire Stride, a director of Uffculme Environmental, the main funders of the project, handing over a commemorative placque to Anne Kilshaw, Association Chairperson.
The Celebration was very well attended, despite the bad weather, and the entertainment and activities were enjoyed by all ages. It was a great reunion opportunity for members, volunteers and staff of the Community Association, both past and present, and a chance for previous supporters to see how the Community Centre has successfully developed. |
