WHO MANAGES THE COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION AND THE COMMUNITY CENTRE? PDF Print E-mail

The Association has a solid democratic framework. It is managed by its annual membership of local people who elect a Management Committee of Trustees each year at an Annual General Meeting held at the end of September or beginning of October.

Evaluating & Targeting our Work: The Annual General Meeting (AGM) also reviews the Association's past year's work and accounts and sets targets for the coming year. The newly elected Management Committee then has the task of working to achieve these targets.

Members of the Management Committee are all Trustee Volunteers:  As such they have to provide a current CRB (Police Check) and take the ultimate responsibility legally and financially for the running of the Association and the Community Centre.

Regular Meetings: The Management Committee meetings are held around every six weeks and are open to all members and invited guests.
(see "Committee Meetings").

Sub-Committees: Committee members may sit on various Sub-Committees i.e 'Finance & Funding','Site & Building', 'Fundraising', Performing Arts, and on Sunningmead Bar Ltd's Management Committee, along with other Association members who are not on the Management Committee but have an interest or expertise.  These sub-committees meet between Management Committee meetings, reporting on their work and ideas as a standard item on Management Committee meeting agendas.

Interested in Becoming a Trustee Management Committee Member?
First, you will need to be a member of Sunningmead Community Association.  Secondly, come along to a couple of committee meetings and get a taster of the way the committee works and the issues it deals with.  There are also Training opportunities available from time to time for management committee members/potential members. If there are any current vacant positions you can apply to the Committee to be co-opted. Finally, if there is no current vacancy, you can stand for election and be nominated at the next Annual General Meeting (AGM) to serve on a future Trustee Management Committee. N.B. All Management Committee members are required to hold current CRB Police Check clearance.

Just Interested in Serving on one of the specialist Sub-Committees?: Some members choose not to serve on the main committee but to take an interest in one aspect of the work, i.e. fundraising or the running of the bar.  To do this you simply have to let either a member of staff or the Chairperson of the Association know of your interest and you will receive an invitation to attend the next appropriate sub-committee meeting to see how they work.
